Building Ourselves Through the 7 Habits | SMCHPD Welcomes the 7 Habits Review Team and Showcases Self-Leadership

17 September 2026 | Port Dickson Chinese Independent High School

“Welcome to SMCHPD!” With warm greetings and bright smiles, the students and staff of Port Dickson Chinese Independent High School enthusiastically welcomed Miss Brooke, Reviewer from the 7 Habits Headquarters in the United States; Dr. Murthy, the Malaysian Reviewer; and Madam Saras, the school’s 7 Habits coach, who visited the school on 17 September 2026 for a review.

The review began with a student-led assembly. Student representatives delivered speeches, followed by a 24-Festival Drums performance and a Choral Speaking presentation by Class J2Zhi, themed “Unity, Synergy and Harmony.” The activities showcased students’ initiative, confidence in expressing themselves and ability to work collaboratively.

The review team then toured the school and engaged students in sharing sessions and interviews on their *Leadership Notebooks, as well as interacting with the *Student Lighthouse Team. The team also visited classrooms to observe students’ learning experiences.

From students taking initiative to teachers providing guidance pand support, from classroom learning to meaningful interactions, the school community demonstrated the essence of self-leadership advocated by the 7 Habits — learning to lead oneself, take responsibility, communicate proactively and grow together through collaboration.

The review was not merely an assessment, but also an opportunity for sincere exchange and learning. Through their warm welcome and genuine engagement, the students and staff of SMCHPD demonstrated that the 7 Habits are more than ideas or principles; they are daily choices put into action, helping every individual become a better version of themselves.

English Odyssey Camp 2026 Successfully Concludes

Junior 1 Students Build Confidence and Communication Skills Through English

To enhance students’ English communication skills, cultivate their interest in learning English, and encourage them to speak with greater confidence, Port Dickson Chung Hua Middle School successfully organised the English Odyssey Camp 2026 from 29 to 30 August 2026. The two-day camp provided Junior 1 students with an engaging and meaningful learning experience beyond the classroom.

During the Opening Ceremony, the Principal expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Lai Chee Sen and his team, Vice Principal Mdm. Hiap Wei Wei, Head of the English Department Ms. Karen, and English teachers for their dedication, hard work and selfless contributions towards the success of the camp. He also commended the senior 1 student facilitators and Camp leader (Iris Koh Ern Tze) for demonstrating positive leadership and encouraged the students to bring the confidence and communication skills developed during the camp back into their everyday classroom learning.

Throughout the two days, students participated in a wide range of interactive activities designed to make English learning enjoyable and meaningful. The first day featured ice-breaking activities, group formation, camp action songs, an English Communication Workshop, performance training and team-building activities, allowing students to communicate and collaborate in English in a relaxed environment.

On the second day, students further developed their communication and presentation skills through “The Art of Presentation”, English Station Games and final performance rehearsals. The camp culminated in a lively Performance Showcase, featuring poem recitation, an Advertisement Challenge, skits and Choral Speaking. Students also competed for the Best Performance, Grand Champion and Station Game Champion awards.

One of the most memorable highlights of the camp was witnessing the students’ transformation. The Principal shared that it was deeply encouraging to see students who were initially hesitant to speak gradually overcome their fears and confidently take the stage to present their stories in English. This growth reflected the true value of the camp—not merely in improving language proficiency, but also in building confidence and the courage to express themselves.

More than just an English camp, English Odyssey Camp 2026 was a valuable journey of growth for the Junior 1 students. May the courage to speak, willingness to try and spirit of teamwork gained during the camp continue to inspire them in their future learning, as English becomes a bridge connecting them to a wider world.
